Is Working As a Travel Agent A Dying Profession?

Is Working As a Travel Agent A Dying Profession?

Shhh…  🤫  I’ve got a secret to tell you.  Please don’t tell anybody else, okay?

Here it is.

It has never been easier for regular folks to book their own vacations.

😮 😮 😮 😮

I hate to say it, but it’s true.  With all the resources available online and every 🛫 airline, 🏨 hotel, 🎢 theme park, and 🐬 excursion you could possibly want having online booking available for anybody…

So, that must mean travel agents are going the way of the dodo, right?  Is working as a travel agent a dying profession?

Actually… no.  The truth is, there has never been a better time to work as a travel agent!

All those fancy-shmancy online booking tools for the general public?  They don’t come anywhere near replacing what a good travel agent brings to the table.

Travel agents still provide invaluable services for vacationers.  They provide a single point of 📱 contact for any issues that might arise with the customers’ trips.  They have access to 💲 discounts the customers can’t get – and don’t even know to look for.  They keep up to date on changes in the travel industry the customers need to know about.

Like when COVID-19 first started to affect travellers in this country, who could they turn to to navigate 🚫 airport closings, theme park attendance reductions, 🚢 cruise shutdowns, and all of the major changes that came along?  Their friendly neighborhood travel agents, that’s who.

(In fact, many consumers who had used online travel agencies like Bookit got completely shut down when they turned to the OTAs for help in cancelling trips due to COVID.  Not the kind of response they would have gotten from any sort of travel agent worth their salt.)

Yes, it’s true.  There are people who will tell you that travel agents aren’t as necessary as they once were.  I’ve got a lot to say on the subject, as you might expect.  Take a look at my new video, “Is Working As a Travel Agent a Dying Profession” on YouTube to get the whole rundown.

Like I said, there has never been a better time to be in the travel business.  Don’t let the haters and detractors try to convince you otherwise.  If you’re a travel agent and you’re ready to provide top-notch service for your customers, you are in a great position to thrive.
